Railway Photos of the World
About Me
I am a Brit now living in Illinois, USA. Having only really spent time with European railways, coming to the US has been a bit of a sock in terms of how much the railways get used for freight, how much freight is transported and how bad the passenger trains are - I should really emphasize this further, passenger trains are archaic, and that is being polite.

Location:Chicago, IL. USA.

    Ffestiniog Railway - Porthmadog
Not too many trains during the winter. However, the two days during each week in November there are trains they are full and running double headers - the (coal burning) Earl of Meirioneth and Blanche.
These photos taken at Porthmadog Harbour and Boston Lodge.

Czech Railways run "specials" from Prague to a the small town Luzna where the Czech Railways Museum is located. It is here that you can find an excellent collection of restored, and fully working, steam locomotives. Fabulous day out.

    Czech Railways - Praha Liben
This is my 'local' station. Very close to this station is a goods sorting yard hence the high number of freight trains passing through. It is also the main route to Prague's two main stations as well as others.
4th Mar 2007Czech Railways - Praha Masarykova Nadrazi
This station is almost in the center of the city. It serves local trains and closer city stopping services like Pardubice.

    Czech Railways - Praha Holesovice
One of the main stations in Prague, it is the primary "International" station serving through trains to and from Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary

    Trams - Augsburg (Germany)
Augsburg in Southern Germany has an excellent, and expanding, tram system. It is home to 60+ Siemens Combino trams that are some of the longest trams available. Well worth a visit.

    Trams - Prague (Czech Rep.) - 1
Prague has a fabulous tram system and the plans are to expand the system further. There is also some major investment in the infrastructure (track rebuilding, new trams, tram refurbishment).

    Ffestiniog Railway
I wasn't quite raised on the Ffestiniog Railway, but it was an important and quite significant in my early life. Hence why the railway has a an important place in my life. The ultimate will be when the line to Caernarfon is completed.
    8th Oct 2006Prague Tramway Museum
Excellent collection of Prague's tram history, and all for around a Euro.

    Slovak Railways
Slovak Railways are, on the whole, very similar to Czech Railways. There are a few notable exceptions, the mountain railways and links to Austria (using Austrian stock) and Ukraine (broad gauge).
